School Summary

Waples Mill is dedicated to creating a learning environment for all students, staff and families.  Classrooms and hallways are filled with intrigue, curiosity and a sense of exploration as teachers lead students to become authentic problem solvers.

Our Elementary School is located on the crest of a hill on the original Waples Farm in Oakton Virginia.  Mr. Waples, an author, currently living in New Jersey was a neighbor and friend of the school.  His original farmhouse remains close to the school and we appreciate his visits to our school.  Our school grounds are alive with learning as we focus on being stewards of our environment and promoting conservation.

The S.T.A.M.P of Excellence is designed as an integrated service/learning model that incorporates Science, Technology, Art, Music and Performance studies using available tools and resources within the school to strengthen students’ knowledge of core areas of instruction.  Students are encourages to become active decision makers and problem solvers who understand their connection to the world and respond to issues in their environment.

Waples Mill is a community school that nurtures and promotes students to set high expectations for academic achievement and develop lifelong skills for thinking and learning.  The school includes programs for students in kindergarten through sixth grade and special programs for preschool students with disabilities aged two through five and for students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and/or moderate to severe disabilities.  Inclusion in the general education of students in special education promotes sensitivity among staff members, students, and the community members regarding the unique needs and intrinsic worth of children with a variety of physical and intellectual abilities.

The PTA is a true partner with the school. To foster open communication and trust, collaborative decision making is promoted between staff, parents and students.   Volunteers continually dedicate their time every day providing extra hands and supporting a wide variety of initiatives including funding for student enrichment, staff development and technology equipment.  Students, parents and faculty work hand-in-hand to build an environment that facilitates excellence in academic achievement, appreciation for the arts and humanities and respect for one’s self and others.

Waples Mill is proud of its academic success, community support, and continually strives for excellence to enrich students’ lives.
