School Summary
Centre Ridge Elementary School opened its doors to welcome students on September 4, 1990. The culturally diverse Centre Ridge student enrollment of nearly 900 students is served by a supportive and knowledgeable staff. Students are heterogeneously grouped for instruction in self-contained classrooms in kindergarten through grade 6. Students are introduced to a middle school approach in sixth grade.
Instruction is enhanced through computer labs, computers in every classroom, extensive early reading programs (Reading Recovery and literacy groups in primary grades), and a 25,000-plus library collection. Centre Ridge Elementary reflects the ideal that it is a community of learners through staff member, parent, and student participation in a wide variety of programs. Parent liaisons enhance communication among staff members and parents. A Be a Buddy, Not a Bully program, school wide and grade-level community service projects, and Peer Mediation further expand the school’s character education initiatives. Operating within the guidelines established by the Fairfax County School Board, the Centre Ridge Elementary community strives to ensure that each child fully uses his or her unique characteristics and strengths to: - Demonstrate proficiency in basic academic skills using best instructional practices.
- Express creativity in all academics and the arts.
- Appreciate and respect the cultural, racial, and ethnic heritage of everyone.
- Become self-confident, independent, self-disciplined, and responsible.
- Develop good mental and physical health habits.
- Learn positive interpersonal relationship skills with both peers and adults.
- Be proficient in the use of technology.
The school and the community work together to fulfill the school's motto of Learners Today…Leaders Tomorrow.
