In 2005, South County Secondary School became the first secondary school to open in Fairfax County in thirty two years. This unique secondary school houses both middle and high school programs that support the concept of integrated seven through twelve instructional, student services and student activities programs. Through the use of shared classroom facilities and combined workrooms, middle and high school teachers collaborate to develop and implement vertical articulation and unified curriculum that supports all student learning and achievement.
High school students have access to academic challenge in every major discipline through our Honors and Advanced Placement courses. The central focus of the curriculum is to provide all students with the intellectual, social and ethical tools that will allow them to fully and successfully participate in the knowledge of a global society. South County Secondary recognizes that students will depart high school for a wide range of post -secondary activities, including employment, military, career and technical studies, as well as community and four year colleges. Our goal is to offer an academic program which serves to prepare students for the next educational and career experience.
South County Secondary is a lighthouse school for the use of technology. The integration of state of the art technology resources enriches curriculum, instruction and assessment in all facets of the school. The entire staff shares responsibility for the learning and success of all students and for South County Secondary School to attain Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) under the federal No Child Left Behind Act. South County Secondary students are encouraged to accept the goal of excellence in academics, athletics, extra-curricular activities, and citizenship.
