School Summary
Liberty Middle School opened its doors to students on September 3, 2002. It serves a richly diverse population of students from the Clifton-Centreville area. Liberty provides an inclusive environment in which intellectual growth for students and staff members is encouraged and supported. Teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, and staff members work together to maintain an academically focused school setting that emphasizes instructional programs that result in continual improvement in student achievement. Liberty students are grouped into interdisciplinary teams with four core teachers who are familiar with the needs of young adolescents and plan collaboratively to focus on students as individuals. The team organization promotes ongoing communication between families, counselors, and teachers and provides the opportunity for students to make the transition between the self-contained classroom of the elementary school to the departmentalization of the secondary program. The interdisciplinary team approach also provides middle school students with a high level of consistency as they acquire strong academic foundations that will ensure their success at every level. The mission of Liberty Middle School teachers, parents, and staff members is to work as a cohesive team to create a positive, safe, and nurturing learning environment that will ensure that all children achieve academically, socially, and personally.
All Liberty Middle School staff members are dedicated to providing an atmosphere in which the importance of the arts and electives is recognized, and the contribution each makes to the development of the whole child is appreciated. Through a one year elective wheel class, seventh grade students have the opportunity to explore a variety of electives including Art, Inventions and Innovations (Synergistic Lab), Technology Tools, and Skills for Success. Honors classes are offered in all core subjects. After-school activities and clubs at Liberty reflect a wide variety of academic, social, and athletic interests. Student recognition for individual talents, achievements, and contributions to the school community is a major focus.
A positive school climate is enhanced by a creative, supportive, and energetic PTA that brings excitement to the activities it sponsors. PTA members coordinate an extensive volunteer program and sponsor extra-curricular activities such as Reflections. Parent liaisons facilitate communication among the parents and teachers and help the school celebrate diversity. Liberty Middle School and the community work together to create an environment that ensures the academic, social, and emotional success of all students.
