School Summary

Hunt Valley is very proud to be among the few schools in Virginia that have been recognized with the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence, the Governor’s highest honor, for the past four years. Failure is not an option here and staff members are dedicated to the success of each student. We offer a variety of instructional interventions during the school day and throughout the summer to support struggling students.

Children's needs are always a top priority at Hunt Valley where a learning environment with high expectations for all students is maintained. An accelerated math program is offered to students who require a faster pace of instruction in grades 3-6, and we continue to have many students qualify to take Honors Math 7 and Algebra 1 in seventh grade.

Critical thinking and problem solving continue to be integral parts of the core curriculum in all academic areas. Our positive behavior approach was created to suit the needs of our school.  All Hunt Valley students are expected to demonstrate Helpfulness, Accountability, Wise Choices, Kindness, and Safety for All in their classrooms as well as in the cafeteria, on the playground and on the buses.  The development of responsibility and respect for self, others, and the community are school-wide priorities. Acceptance of cultural diversity and a positive school climate continue to be emphasized.

Hunt Valley Elementary was completed in 1969 and underwent renovation which was completed in 1996. Each classroom has 4-5 PCs, our lab has thirty new computers with high end capabilities, and all classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards for interactive learning and teaching. There are a number of portable laptop carts available for classroom check-out.

Hunt Valley has an active PTA that meets on the first Tuesday of each month. Parents and volunteers are always invited to take an active part in school activities and PTA events. Hunt Valley is fortunate to have a community that supports our school's dedication to excellence and continuous improvement for our students and staff.
