School Summary
Located in a wooded Springfield neighborhood, Orange Hunt Elementary opened its doors in September of 1974. The school was renovated in 1998 and approximately 800 students are currently enrolled. In 1994, a partial German Immersion program was established at Orange Hunt. Approximately 300 children currently participate in this program in grades one through six. The partial German immersion program gives students the opportunity to gain a command of the German language while being taught math, science, and health during the regular school day. The Orange Hunt school community embraces the philosophy of building partnerships among the faculty, students, and families to create an enriching and academically rigorous learning environment which supports the success of all our children. We incorporate the school’s mascot –the Owl – into our School Motto setting the tone for Orange Hunt’s culture and commitment to teaching and learning… Orange Hunt School Working Together Leading Every Child to Success! We provide many enriching experiences which support the success of all students such as a Strategies Lab, Art and Literacy Night, Mathematics Night, band (with over 170 participants), strings, chorus, student-produced daily news show, Geography Bee, Student Council Association (SCA), Patrols, Peer Mediation, and literature clubs. Technology integration is enhanced by interactive whiteboard technology (SMARTboard) in each classroom, a computer lab, several wireless mobile labs, and a fully connected production studio. Orange Hunt is fortunate to have a community that greatly enhances the school environment through participating in special events, volunteering at the school, and supporting the school’s programs and faculty/staff. Likewise, a wide variety of after-school programs are sponsored by the PTA (e.g., Chess Club, FLEX, Reflections, Odyssey of the Mind, Kinderchor, German drama, etc.) to enrich the learning experiences of our students. Orange Hunt's Vision Statement Working collaboratively, Orange Hunt Elementary School dedicates itself to ensure success for every student by providing a well-rounded, rigorous, tailored, and technology–rich education that develops sophisticated problem-solvers, responsive to the needs of our global community. Orange Hunt's Mission Statement As a professional learning community, Orange Hunt will develop engaged, high-level learners equipped with the necessary tools to tackle the challenges and experiences they will encounter in our ever-changing world.
