School Summary
Forest Edge Elementary School for Communications and Technology, opened in 1971, serves a culturally diverse and dynamic Reston community. The student population is drawn from five different school boundaries due to the English for speakers of other languages and the gifted and talented center programs housed within the building.
The school and community focus on a shared vision for education. Forest Edge continually reaches out to this community and proactively addresses the many concerns that affect our students’ educational progress.
Parental involvement is a strong asset as evidenced by the multitude of volunteers and active parent participation. Staff members work collaboratively with one another and with parents to promote the success of all its students.
Interactive programs and functions address not only the students’ academic concerns but also the social-emotional, physical, and economic needs of our students. The learning climate at Forest Edge promotes best practices with a commitment to character. Many staff members have won grants and awards for teaching. The entire staff works together to help students meet the educational challenges of the new millennium.
As a communications and technology focus school, Forest Edge is equipped with SmartBoards in each teaching area, interactive encyclopedia, Internet access, Windows on Science, Hands-On Science, a fully automated library, a state of the arts technology resource center and a minimum of four computers in each classroom help us achieve our technological goals.
Students are involved in many after-school clubs and activities to strengthen their self-development. Forest Edge is a school for children. Students are taught to value themselves and others while preparing themselves, through a strong vigorous Program of Studies, for the world of the future.
