School Summary
Floris Elementary School provides a safe and supportive environment that encourages students to strive to reach their full potential. A cooperative spirit and strong communication between home and school are key factors in creating this positive environment. Students, staff, and parents are all treated with courtesy, kindness, and respect.
Floris students use technology throughout the school day and at home. The newly renovated building includes two Dell mobile and two Pentium 4 stationary computer labs, as well as three or four new computers in each classroom. Each classroom is also equipped with a SMART Board and a data projector. Critical thinking and problem solving are integral parts of our core curriculum. Floris is especially proud of its fine arts program, which allows all students in kindergarten through grade six to work actively and creatively with a variety of media. Floris' business-school partners and parents volunteer assistance in order to provide students with additional support in learning.
Our FLES program reinforces and extends student learning in the core subjects of math, social studies, and science as all students learn to speak and read Spanish. Our foreign language partial-immersion program presents the opportunity for some of our students in grades four through six to receive math, science, and health instruction in Japanese. All students learn the value of teamwork and cooperation by working together through conflict resolution, mediation, and cooperative learning. Classes are designed to include students of all ability levels, languages, various racial and ethnic origins, and handicapping conditions.
Floris' faculty and staff members use many sources of information to assess the quality of their programs, including student projects, test data, surveys, and feedback from students, parents, business partners, and staff of the middle and high schools receiving Floris students. Together, we ensure that all students have the opportunity to strive toward their fullest potential in a stimulating community of learners.
