School Summary
Herndon Middle School serves students in grades seven and eight from Herndon and Reston. Staff members are committed to providing a safe, nurturing community for all learners. Students are encouraged to grow academically, develop socially, make appropriate choices, and accept responsibility for their decisions.

Herndon has instructional teams that include teachers, counselors, special education teachers, and administrators. The team structure provides each student an identity within a large school population. Additionally, services are offered for gifted and talented students, students with learning disabilities, students with physical disabilities, and students who attend English for speakers of other languages classes.

Herndon Middle School is the only Fairfax County Middle School to have a marching band and to win the Sudler Cup. Herndon Middle School offers an extensive elective program. Students can choose from such diverse offerings as art, music, exploring work and family roles, keyboarding, music participation lab, introduction to foreign language, reading, photography, technology education in the synergistics lab and networked computer lab, drama, creative writing, and peer mediation.

The school has strong parent and community support led by the PTA.
