School Summary
Located in Chantilly, Virginia, Rocky Run first opened its doors in 1980. In keeping with the middle school philosophy, Rocky Run is organized around six instructional teams of approximately 135 students. The team approach creates a smaller learning environment that allows our staff a better opportunity to really get to know your child. Each team provides a quality instructional program designed to appropriately challenge gifted center, honors, general education, and special needs learners. At Rocky Run, parents and staff work together to give students the time, support, and encouragement they need to achieve.

Rocky Run gains a strong foundation from a student-centered vision driven by high expectations and clear, challenging standards that are widely understood by our students and families. The staff strives to conduct, consider, and apply current research in designing instructional programs that lead to constantly improving student achievement. Rocky Run believes that the best learning environment connects the entire school community with each other and the world through information-rich, interactive technology.

Rocky Run’s strong academic program is complimented by enriching co-curricular offerings and activities. The middle school years provide students with the first real opportunity to engage in elective exploratory study and participate in the performing arts. The award winning music program provides instrumental and choral instruction for over fifty percent of the student population. Rocky Run offers introductory and high school-level courses in French and Spanish. In addition, students may choose exploratory classes in computers, industrial technology, family studies, art, and drama. Research demonstrates that students who are active in the life of their school achieve at higher levels across the curriculum. Rocky Run provides an expansive after-school program five days per week with a range of offerings including the Model United Nations, Odyssey of the Mind, Math Counts, and Science Olympiad.

The Rocky Run Middle School community is committed to helping each child achieve their full academic potential and to developing an expectation of excellence in all endeavors.
