School Summary
Virginia Run Elementary School was established in 1989. The mission of Virginia Run Elementary School is to offer a comprehensive instructional program as outlined in the Program of Studies, to maintain the highest possible levels of academic achievement for all students, and to have students continue to develop higher level thinking skills across the curriculum. Staff members are committed to using best practices to accomplish the ten strategic targets of the Fairfax County Public Schools and to maintain Virginia State Accreditation. Virginia Run Elementary students, staff members, and parents work together to provide a place of active and positive learning by demonstrating respect and accepting responsibility for themselves, others, and the school environment.
A collaborative, decision-making process is used as staff members and parents assess schoolwide needs and determine ongoing instructional goals as specified in the Virginia Run Elementary school plan. An important focus of Virginia Run School is expanding the integration and application of technology throughout the curriculum. Students are regularly challenged to go beyond the Program of Studies through projects and enrichment activities. In addition, staff members continually explore current research relating to appropriate expectations and instructional practices for children.
Virginia Run Elementary embraces the continuum of service delivery models for students with special needs and provides services based on ongoing assessment and evaluation of students' individual needs. An extensive parent volunteer program supports numerous enrichment programs, Odyssey of the Mind, and foreign language classes.
