School Summary
Hollin Meadows Elementary School is a science and math focus school situated in a community that is rich in history. An active PTA supports the staff’s academic focus and provides cultural and enrichment opportunities for all students.

The school opened its doors in 1965. The school is organized by grade levels, kindergarten through six. The superb, dedicated staff at Hollin Meadows enriches the curriculum by incorporating basic skills through an emphasis on science and math. The School Planning Team involves the staff and parents in the school-based management process.

Two resource teachers provide additional instruction in science and math to students and staff members. A reduced pupil-teacher staffing ratio provides support for students in the Standards of Learning (SOL). Other child-centered school resources include: a strong gifted and talented program; well-equipped science and math labs; full-time computer technology specialist; two music teachers; three physical education teachers; two art teachers; five special education teachers, two English for speakers of other languages teachers; two counselors; a reduced ratio of approximately fifteen students to one teacher in the first grade classrooms; full-day kindergarten; a Reading Recovery teacher; and Step-Up Language Arts and Step-Up Math programs.

Teachers also enhance the instructional program by providing field trips that take advantage of the vast metropolitan area. Two parent liaisons link the school to the community. Student interns from George Mason and Marymount Universities work closely with faculty members to provide additional academic enrichment to students.
