School Summary
Stratford Landing Elementary School is a community of active, eager learners guided and supported by a creative, energetic staff and generous, committed parents. Every day the professional learning community of Stratford Landing strives to provide an enriched and well-rounded educational program in a safe and nurturing environment that challenges all students to develop to their fullest potential. Children come from varied backgrounds and work together productively in a school climate that honors diversity and encourages individual and group achievement.
A world class education for every student is addressed through a creative and carefully planned program of instruction that provides academic challenge and a wide range of opportunities for student leadership and success. The core curriculum and learning objectives reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and the FCPS Program of Studies (POS). The staff maintains and supports high academic and behavioral standards and expectations, emphasizing critical thinking skills at each grade level, making it possible for each student to become a self-directed and self-confident lifelong learner. Teachers give careful consideration to student learning styles, developmental levels, special needs, and special talents as they design their instruction. Attention is given to increase the literacy and competence of the students and staff in the appropriate application of educational and informational technology through modeling, training, practice, integration, and awareness of current trends. The staff provides many and varied opportunities for students to develop and maximize their physical, mental, and social potential. Locally developed enrichment activities, many organized and facilitated by the PTA and community, extend and supplement the basic instructional program during the instructional hours and after school.
The children at Stratford Landing benefit from the collaboration and interaction of staff and the intermingling of students in the general education program, the English Speakers of Other Languages, the special education program, the preschool program, and the advanced academic program center. A benefit from this interaction is a respect for and appreciation of the uniqueness of our diverse school community.
