Hayfield staff members and community members work together to provide a positive school climate in which students can achieve academic excellence. Students in grades 7 and 8 are grouped into teams with four core teachers who are familiar with the needs of young adolescents. The teams strive to improve the connection between families and teachers, promote cooperative learning, coordinate interdisciplinary units with elective teachers, strengthen problem-solving skills, and help students develop positive attitudes about themselves and others.
The middle school curriculum and philosophy promote lifelong learning and a sense of community by balancing academic studies, physical and health education, and fine and practical arts experiences in a nurturing environment. Students have many opportunities to access and experience technology in their instructional lessons as well as academic connections to real-world issues. As a result of the secondary school structure, a greater variety of elective offerings are easily accessible to our students as compared to a stand-alone middle school. In addition, the transition from middle to high school is seamless and less stressful. We are fortunate to have a very supportive community, both financially and through volunteerism, as we prepare our young people for the rigors of high school coursework.
