School Summary
West Springfield Elementary School has a long tradition of educational excellence within the West Springfield community. First opened in 1965 and renovated in 1994, the building is nestled in the trees on a cul de sac and has a small community school atmosphere. West Springfield's faculty and support staff members strive to provide a positive, safe, and stimulating environment for learning. Parents and staff members work collaboratively with the administration to identify strategic goals for school improvement, targeting specific areas of student achievement and the climate for learning. Objectives in the West Springfield school plan reflect a school and a community commitment to improving student achievement, especially in the areas of reading, mathematics, social studies, and science. Preparing students for the future is a goal shared by staff members, parents, and the community. The school environment is one that provides students the opportunity to practice their interpersonal skills, to learn to appreciate the diversity of cultures, and to promote the development of their character in preparation for participation in the worldwide community. The use of technology at West Springfield Elementary School supports the instructional focus on creative-thinking and problem-solving strategies and is integrated with many aspects of the instructional day. An active PTA provides strong support for the instructional program through volunteer activities in the school. Special programs such as the Foreign Language Experience (FLEX) Program, and Reflections have been sponsored by the PTA to provide additional extension activities for the students. West Springfield Elementary is proud of its academic success, parental support, and programs that enrich the lives of all students. West Springfield Elementary School has earned the Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence for 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
