School Summary
Consistent with FCPS Programs of Study, Virginia Standards of Learning and the Federal requirements of No Child Left Behind, WSHS faculty and staff strive to prepare students so that they have the knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers of choice and life in general. Staff members work hard to provide a quality education for every student in an environment that is safe, warm and supportive.
WSHS academic programs cover the full range of student needs from very basic training to very advanced and extensive Advanced Placement coursework. Staff members make extensive use of technology to support classroom instructional programs. In addition, faculty and staff use technology to facilitate instructional collaboration and meaningful analysis of student achievement data to inform instruction. Multiple stationary computer labs are supplemented by eight wireless mobile labs and the dedicated SONY Virtuso lab. Communication resources include the WSHS Web Site, FCPS supported student email, Blackboard and “Ennouncements” from the Student Services Staff. The WSHS Guidance Department offers twenty-five different student enrichment seminars, Mentoring, Peer Helping, Peer Mediation, and College Partnership programs. A grant funded Standardized Test Preparation Program is available as are the services of our Career Center specialist. The work of the faculty and staff is supported by the WSHS parent, teacher, Student Association (PTSA), Spartan Booster Club, a variety of program specific booster organizations, Concerned Parents Group, the Parent Support Network and our parent liaison.
West Springfield's staff members are proud of the instructional and extracurricular programs that are provided for the students. Staff members are continually striving to change and improve so that the needs of every student can be more completely met. WSHS parents and community offer strong support for the school and together every effort is made to make West Springfield High School a better place for students.
