School Summary
Olde Creek ES, among the smallest schools in Fairfax County, is a diverse community in which educational achievement is highly prized. Students, who reflect the pride in accomplishment of their parents, perform very well on standardized tests, but really show their talent when given opportunities to research a topic and think their way through a problem to produce a quality project. The school is committed to development of good friends, good citizens, and good students.

The Olde Creek PTA supports the school at a very high level through an extensive volunteer program, support of enrichment experiences, and support for acquiring and maintaining technology that contributes to sophisticated learning. The PTA supports after school foreign language, chess, checkers, and jump rope clubs, as well as Arts programs and an extensive array of field trips. Visitors often comment on the large number of adult volunteers, organized through our PTA, who directly assist students in classrooms.

Staff members are committed to teaching basic skills, and work consistently to incorporate thinking and research skills in content study. Beginning in the primary grades, students are asked to use both book and electronic means to search and gather information, judge relevance and value, and create their own presentations to demonstrate understanding. Multiple means are used to assess student learning, including evaluation of original products created using specific standards for performance. To assist in these endeavors, teachers and students have access to productivity technologies, including laptops and data projectors for all teachers, and one-to-one computer access using wireless hand-held devices for sixth graders.
