School Summary
Sleepy Hollow Elementary School was built in 1954 on a site that was part of Fort Buffalo during the Civil War. Located between Seven Corners and Annandale, Sleepy Hollow Elementary is a "global community" of students from numerous countries. Staff members are committed to providing purposeful experiences in an environment that ensures the academic success and personal well-being of the entire learning community. Parallel block scheduling allows teachers to meet the identified needs of each child by providing small group uninterrupted instruction in language arts and mathematics. Students in grades one through five work in small groups at their own skill levels for the majority of the day. Weekly team planning allows teachers to coordinate ideas and activities with grade-level teachers and other professionals. Staff members pursue professional growth opportunities and generously share their expertise with each other. Close communication with parents through quarterly curriculum overviews, interim reports, Blackboard 24-7, and progress reports, as well as regular parent conferences, ensures that teachers and parents work together to meet the unique needs of each child. The staff of Sleepy Hollow Elementary School is dedicated to the belief that all children will succeed if given the necessary support and encouragement.
The PTA of Sleepy Hollow is extremely active and supportive of the school and its programs. Because of their contributions, daily instruction is enhanced by classroom volunteers, curricular offerings to students are expanded and enriched, and after-school extra-curricular offerings contribute to developing the whole child. Further, the PTA supports cultural events and field trips beyond those provided by FCPS.
