School Summary
James Madison High School is located in Vienna, ten miles west of the nation's capital. Vienna residents possess a strong sense of community togetherness and pride, which is reflected in a strong commitment to and support of the school's entire educational program. On the average, 90 percent of the school's graduates go on to post-secondary education.
Madison's student body participates in a wide variety of extracurricular activities designed to complement the regular academic program. Over 40 clubs and activities are available for all students.
Madison continues to focus on student achievement, school climate, and enhanced communications between school and community. Teachers work closely in subject areas and grade level teams to explore best practices for maximizing student achievement. Quantitative (test scores) and qualitative (surveys) measures are periodically employed to monitor progress toward specific achievement goals.
The vision of James Madison High School is to create a stimulating environment that contributes to a high level of student performance and achievement while continuing to provide a challenging and appropriate curriculum for all students. Madison will continue to implement strategies for improving student achievement and will focus on exploring additional opportunities to infuse modern technology throughout the curriculum. Finally, Madison will continue to recognize the value and contributions of the entire school community in its success. Student growth and well being are promoted in a secure atmosphere, making it possible for all students to develop their individual potentials. Students are given the opportunity to understand and respect the rights of others and are called upon to provide input in school decision-making.
