School Summary
Oakton Elementary School, established as a Fairfax County elementary school in 1945, is located in the Oakton community between Fairfax City and Vienna near the intersection of Interstate 66 and Route 123. Our vision is to prepare every child for global citizenship by fostering academic excellence, creative and independent thinking skills, respect for others and the environment, and active community involvement.

The mission of Oakton Elementary School is to provide a challenging and nurturing environment where each child will become an enthusiastic life-long learner and embrace the role of a well-rounded global citizen. Guided by the Oakton School Plan, the Instruction Committee coordinates areas of focus and guides our talented and dedicated staff to meet yearly goals in the areas of Academic, Essential Life Skills, and Responsibility to the Community. With a focus on the character traits of compassion, honesty, respect and responsibility, and an emphasis on technology, students develop qualities and capabilities that reach beyond the classroom. Oakton Elementary School embraces the philosophy of integration. Opportunities for expression of cultural diversity and an appreciation for the uniqueness of each student are encouraged.

The Oakton Strategies Lab is staffed by a full-time gifted and talented resource teacher and provides hands-on enrichment opportunities for all students K-6. The activities in the Strategies Lab provides students with opportunities to develop problem-solving skills, encourages children to take risks, fosters their creativity and challenges them to transfer these skills into their classroom curriculum experiences.

An active PTA enhances the instructional program by volunteering time during the school day to support classroom activities, bringing educational enrichment programs to the school and enriching the students’ lives with engaging cultural arts events. In addition, the PTA sponsors many family activities to develop a strong sense of community within the school.

Oakton Elementary is proud of its academic success, parental support, and programs that enhance the lives of all students. For further information about our school, you are invited to visit us at www.fcps.edu/OaktonES.
