School Summary
Spring Hill Elementary School is dedicated to its educational partnership with the community it serves. Parents and staff members share a common commitment to help students develop and grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically. Staff members nurture each child's sense of self-worth with high expectations and realistic standards of achievement. Spring Hill has recently been awarded the prestigious Virginia Index Performance (VIP) Award for Continued Excellence by Governor Tim Kaine. Spring Hill has also been granted automatic accreditation for the next three years based on our systematically high Standards of Learning (SOL) scores over the last several years.

An incredibly important component of Spring Hill’s success lies with our parent and community volunteers. Our community has pledged thousands of hours supporting the goal of our school. Spring Hill Elementary School is dedicated to the notion that every child’s journey as a lifelong learner is varied and at times must be nurtured individually. School-community initiatives, FCPS division wide strategic target assessments, Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) competency tests and Federal No Child Left Behind evaluative benchmarks are consistently surpassed at the highest levels of competency. A major facet of Spring Hill’s vision is that all students will reach their potential academically. Some of the techniques used to reach this goal are differentiated instruction, flexible mathematics groupings, guided reading approaches, various reading intervention initiatives, an emphasis on writing, as well as a complete science laboratory. Student technology skills are mastered via an integrated approach throughout the various subject areas.

Spring Hill's staff members are dedicated learners themselves, actively participating in local, state, and national conferences, participating in on-site technology training and other in-services to stay on the cutting edge of educational and instructional research. As a result, we provide an enriched program that meets the needs of our students.

Spring Hill mirrors the McLean community's international population and is a center for English for speakers of other languages (ESOL). Though Spring Hill continues to focus on exemplary academic achievement, we are simultaneously nationally recognized for our character education program and we are embarking on taking a leadership role in the area of Positive Behavior Support (PBS) ideals that promote harmonious relationships throughout the school.

The true spirit of Spring Hill can best be seen through its numerous service projects. Clubs are sponsored jointly by staff members and parents. Our clubs and service projects offer all students the opportunity to tap and develop their visual performing talents, citizenship skills, academic interests, and an appreciation for and awareness of geographic diversity. Spring Hill has been recognized as one of the most environmentally conscious schools in Northern Virginia and a major facet of our School Improvement Plan is to continue to instill the ideals of positive stewardship of our planet’s resources.
