Susan Quinn Named New FCPS Assistant Superintendent for Financial Services

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) Superintendent Jack D. Dale has named Susan Quinn, a 14-year veteran of FCPS, as the new assistant superintendent for financial services and chief financial officer. Quinn assumed the duties of her new job on September 8. She replaces Deirdra McLaughlin, who retired from the school system.

“Susan Quinn has more than 20 years of experience in budgeting, accounting, and financial management,” says Dale. “She is well versed in FCPS’ budgeting and financial policies and procedures and has 18 years of supervisory experience. We are pleased to have her join our Leadership Team.”

Quinn, who is a certified public accountant, most recently served as FCPS acting assistant superintendent for financial services. Previously, she served as FCPS comptroller where she was responsible for all aspects of finance, implemented best practices guidelines to improve financial management, enhanced travel policies and procedures and implemented an online approval and reimbursement system, reorganized the comptroller’s office, and assumed responsibilities of the Office of Finance to improve organizational effectiveness and enhance customer service.

From January 2002 to March 2007, Quinn served as financial reporting chief in the Office of Finance for Fairfax County government, where she managed and oversaw countywide mandated financial reporting requirements, including the comprehensive annual financial report, served as the audit coordinator for the countywide independent audit, and provided leadership and guidance to county agencies related to financial matters. Prior to that, she served as budget coordinator for FCPS’ Office of Budget Services and as an accounting analyst in the Office of Finance.

A graduate of Colorado State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, Quinn is a member of the Association of School Business Officials, the Government Finance Officers Association, and the Virginia Government Finance Officers Association.
