FCPS High School Students Have New Tools for Postsecondary Planning

High school students in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) now have expanded access to tools for postsecondary planning that will enable them to store a list of colleges they are interested in along with college essays and other postsecondary planning materials in one place online. By using Naviance’s Family Connection and Counselor’s Office through their FCPS 24-7 Learning account, students can develop and update their goals by creating a personal plan, generate a record of activities and interests, and explore educational opportunities at two- and four-year colleges and professional and trade institutions while reducing the stress and complexity of the college application process.

Student access to Counselor’s Office, used by FCPS counselors since 2006, provides a secure and convenient stream of enhanced communication between counselor and student. All the information a student needs can be stored in one place, making it easy for students to work with parents and counselors.

This spring, more than 5,000 FCPS students used the planning and search features of Family Connection. Students access this site often as they explore their postgraduation plans. The program allows them to easily compare their individual grade point averages and SAT and ACT scores to the college admission results of previous graduates from their high school and use extensive search tools to find the right fit for their academic and career goals.
