Tuesday, February 05, 2013 Marshall Academy Cosmetology Program Offers Valentine's Day Salon Services to the Public Salon services—performed by students in the Marshall Academy cosmetology program—will be available to the public during the program’s Valentine’s Day Hair Extravaganza fundraiser on Thursday, February 14, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Marshall Academy is one of six high school academies in Fairfax County Public Schools. Among the available services are hair styling, hair cutting and styling, hand exfoliation, perms, and highlights. All services will be performed by students. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the cosmetology program’s annual field trip to the International Beauty Show (IBS) and Conference in New York City. To schedule an appointment for an available service, call 703-714-5536. The cosmetology program teaches about the history of and opportunities in the cosmetology industry along with hair, nail, and skin care; how to put forth a professional image; cosmetology sciences; life skills; and the business aspects of managing or owning a salon. Students hear from industry professionals who serve as guest speakers, demonstrate the latest trends, and showcase new products. The program culminates into industry certification by the Virginia Board of Cosmetology. ###
