FCPS to Host Presentation by Resiliency Expert

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will host a presentation by resiliency expert Nan Henderson, “Resiliency in Action: How Families, Schools, and Communities Create ‘Bounce Back’ Kids,” on Tuesday, January 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Robinson Secondary School. This free presentation is designed for parents, school staff, and community members.

Henderson’s presentation is being held in conjunction with the resiliency program developed by the FCPS Department of Special Services in collaboration with Fairfax County government and several community youth groups. The resiliency program focuses on three areas: bullying prevention and intervention; suicide prevention and how children can deal with depression; and crisis situations, like the death of a student or teacher or the impact of a natural or man-made disaster. The FCPS program uses school psychologists, social workers, and counselors to help students develop social competence, problem-solving skills, self-awareness and control, and initiative—the traits that resilient individuals possess to “bounce back” and overcome life’s challenges.

Online registration is available for the resiliency presentation.

Note: Robinson Secondary School is located at 5935 Sideburn Road in Fairfax.
