Fairfax County School Board Hires Superintendent Search Firm

The Fairfax County School Board has awarded a contract to Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates to conduct a search for Division Superintendent candidates to replace Superintendent Jack D. Dale, who will retire from Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) on June 30, 2013. The contract is for $35,000, plus approved expenses.

“The School Board will be working closely with the search firm to ensure that input from parents, employees, and the community are gathered and considered before candidates are brought forward,” said School Board chair Ilryong Moon. “It is critical that we have feedback from all constituents when considering the qualifications for our next superintendent.

The Division Superintendent Search Firm RFP Selection Advisory Committee was chaired by Pat Hynes (Hunter Mill), who is also vice chair of the School Board.

“The Selection Advisory Committee vetted all the highly qualified firms and held extensive interviews, which resulted in a very thorough selection process,” Hynes said.

Selection Advisory Committee members also included School Board members Sandy Evans (Mason), Megan McLaughlin (Braddock), Ilryong Moon (at large), Elizabeth Schultz (Springfield), Kathy Smith (Sully), Dan Storck (Mount Vernon), Jane Strauss (Dranesville), and Ted Velkoff (at large).

The School Board will be holding a work session on Monday, November 12, to discuss the aspects of the superintendent search, including community engagement and public input opportunities.
