FCPS Wins Three Telly Awards
Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has captured three Telly Awards for 2012. The Telly Awards, similar to the Emmy Awards, recognize exceptional cable programming and are among the most sought-after awards in the television, commercial, and video industry. Top entries are chosen based on the number of points scored on a ten-point scale and are judged against a standard of excellence. This brings the total number of Telly Awards won by FCPS since 2001 to 70.
FCPS productions receiving 2012 Telly Awards are:
· Meet the Author: Discover Shakespeare, bronze award winner in the Educational Program category. This show helped students better understand Shakespeare’s use of language and featured the director of the Folger Shakespeare Library and a performance by Herndon High School students.
· Student Rights and Responsibilities, bronze award winner in the Use of Graphics in Animation category. This video provided updates to FCPS students on their right to be educated in a safe environment and their responsibility for proper behavior.
· Hayfield Pyramid Kick-Off, bronze award winner in the Use of Graphics in Animation category. This animation was created to support Hayfield Secondary School and its feeder schools in their annual kick-off conference.
Most of the funding for FCPS programming and production, as well as use of cable television channels, comes from a franchise agreement with cable providers. Many of the winning programs will be rebroadcast over the summer; watch the Fine Tuning program guide for dates and times.
Founded in 1980, the Telly Awards competition originally showcased outstanding non-network and cable commercials. The highly respected awards program then expanded to include film and video productions. Winners and finalists are from a cross section of agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operations, and corporate video departments, including the FedEx Corporation, PBS, Discovery Health Channel, Universal Studios Network, and Walt Disney Studios. Producers of the winning spots will receive statuettes and certificates.
