FCPS Students Attend Junior Law Cadet Program Over the Summer
Six Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) students participated in the Virginia American Legion Junior Law Program at the Virginia State Police Training Academy in Richmond this summer. The program is designed to teach high school students about the law enforcement profession.
Participants included Connor Brennan and Randy Herbst of Lake Braddock Secondary School, Chad Elzaiat of Stuart High School, and Bradley Vanness, Marvin Bogyah, and Ramon Sanchez of West Potomac High School. Elzaiat was selected as the recipient of the Jessica Cheney Spirit Award, named after a Virginia State Trooper who was killed in the line of duty.
The six seniors participated in daily calisthenics, took field trips to the State Capitol and State Police headquarters, attended classroom sessions, and learned about the operation of radar, VASCAR, and other State Police equipment during the five-day residential session.
Participants were selected for the program based on their character, interest, evidence of self-discipline, and possession of an attitude and demeanor that would benefit by the association and contact with officers of the law. Candidates must be well-rounded, outgoing, hard-working individuals with reasonable grades who can communicate and lead their peers.
