FCPS Creates System to Collect Athletic Administrative Fees

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will collect athletic administrative fees—which will be charged for the first time during the 2010-11 school year—through a centralized billing process. The $100 fee applies to each high school student who participates in a Virginia High School League (VHSL) sport and will be charged for each freshman, junior varsity, and varsity sport a student plays. The fee is nonrefundable and will be waived for students who are eligible for free and reduced price meals.

FCPS will mail an invoice to parents three times during the school year after team rosters become final—in September, December, and February. The fee was established by the Fairfax County School Board as part of the FY 2011 budget in an effort to raise revenue and avoid further cuts to programs. The funds collected from the fee will directly support the student activities and athletics program.

Payments can be made by check, money order, or credit card. Parents will be able to pay bills online; instructions on how to do so will be sent with invoices.
