FCPS Wins Hermes Creative Awards

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has received seven Hermes Creative Awards for 2009, including two platinum awards, presented to entries considered the most outstanding in the competition. Hermes Creative Awards are administered and judged by the Association for Marketing and Communications Professionals.

The Multimedia Design team, part of the FCPS Information Technology Department, received platinum awards for a poster advertising the 53rd annual Science and Engineering Fair and for integrated marketing materials created to publicize Flight School, a four-part electronic field trip series produced in partnership with the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Northern Virginia chapter (AFCEA-NOVA) and the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.

FCPS received gold awards for its communication plan for Like It? Lock It!–a Department of Facilities and Transportation Services campaign to encourage students to lock up their valuables; for the publication design of Making IT Happen–an overview of the Department of Information Technology; for the logo for Online Travel, an internal FCPS online application; and for the video opening of “Primary Sources: Library of Congress,” a television program on the use of primary source materials in the classroom.

An honorable mention was presented to FCPS for the Online Safety brochure, a guide to safe use of the Internet.

Started in 1995, the Hermes Creative Awards provide an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, and design of traditional materials and programs and emerging technologies. Entries come from corporate marketing and communication departments, advertising agencies, public relations firms, design shops, production companies, and web-based innovators and freelancers.
