FCPS Hosts Korean Teacher Interns

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is hosting a group of Korean teacher assistant interns in its middle schools, providing a learning experience as well as a cultural exchange program for students and teachers as part of a joint partnership between the school system, the Korean Ministry of Education and Human Resources, and JMNet, a Korean media company.

The visiting interns will have an opportunity to observe classes, work with students individually and in groups, and learn about the American education system and culture. While the internship is not a student teaching experience, it is designed to help prepare the interns for teaching. All the interns are fluent in English, and most are studying to teach English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).

Currently, the following schools are hosting teacher assistant interns from Korea: Carson, Glasgow, Holmes, Irving, Key, Jackson, Poe, Rocky Run, and Twain Middle Schools.

As part of the exchange, cooperating teachers who host the interns will be offered the opportunity to travel to South Korea for two weeks, courtesy of JMNet, in order to participate in educational and cultural activities. While the teacher assistant interns are in the United States, they are being hosted by families at the participating schools.
