Fairfax County School Board Sets Boundaries for Two New Elementary Schools

The Fairfax County School Board has approved adjustments to school attendance areas in anticipation of the opening of two new elementary schools in September 2009.

The new school at the Coppermine site will require boundary adjustments among Floris, Herndon, Hutchison, McNair and Oak Hill Elementary Schools, and the reassignment of gifted and talented (GT) center students from McNair and Floris Elementaries, who are currently assigned to the Oak Hill Elementary GT Center, to the McNair Elementary GT Center, to be established as part of this boundary adjustment. GT center-eligible students who live in the attendance area for the new school will be assigned to the McNair Elementary GT Center.

The new school at the Laurel Hill site includes boundary adjustments between Gunston, Halley, Lorton Station, Newington Forest, and Silverbrook Elementary Schools. Included in the new Laurel Hill attendance area is the Evans subdivision, the senior housing development adjacent to South County Secondary School, the future Laurel Hill adaptive reuse program site, areas generally south of Lorton Road and west of I-95, and areas generally west of Richmond Highway and east of I-95.
